I want to make 2 or 3 illustrations that are directed towards the video game franchise World of Warcraft. This could be just concept art, or maybe poster art, or a book cover art.
It will be done in the traditional medium; watercolors, inks, and probably touched up in Photoshop at the end. Since both pieces will be for the same game, I think that they would work together as a way to show concept art for in game, I might also create some original stuff in it, not all would be already existing material, like maybe a new character or new architecture or such, but still within the world of warcraft feel.
My research will support this, since now I know almost exactly what Blizzard wants in their art. After talking to a talented artist that has worked for the company, I am aware of what to do and how to do it, like what color palette they usually go for, and how their aesthetics work.
The reason I am making this, is not only to try something that I have not done in a while, that is still within my interests as an illustrator; but also to see how my art style can fit into the world of gaming and conceptual art. If it is successful I will learn that my art is not so limited to just illustrative stuff but also conceptual stuff, and that I might have a chance at commissioning with the company that made my favorite game of all times.
I think that since most of my stuff is original (which is always good) if I ever want to go into gaming industry I need to develop a portfolio that is focused on that particular game industry. And so forth this could help me get started. At the end when the project is done I will submit this to the blizzard page, and hopefully they will notice me and I could be mentioned in their website, which in turn will get me noticed by fans and such.
Now this is my rough Idea, this could change to another less competitive game company (since blizzard is filled with top notch illustrators) like maybe another game that I like, possibly Metal Gear Solid, or Skyrim, etc.
Also I could then turn these Illustrations into a card game specific for the game, example; W.O.W. has its own trading card game in which they commission illustrators. Or I can go towards Wizards of the coast for Magic the Gathering instead.
